Thinking a lot lately of my brother Dave. So much so that it led to my next painting. When visiting him a few weeks before he died my sister and I hung out one afternoon in his workshop. This is one of several anvils I came across, his hammer at rest on top. Seemed to signify everything that was happening. He had forearms the size of giants and the strength of 10 blacksmiths, yet he molded, shaped, coaxed and curved iron with a gentle hand and with the most amount of patience I have ever witnessed.

So I was inspired to paint something I love.

Sometimes while painting I like to share progress. I received an unexpected yet welcome reply, a reply that touched my heart and reminded me of how art connects us.

"An anvil with a man's hammer laying at rest. It seems so simple, but has so many stories to tell. That's how I feel about the vice I work with. I stand at it everyday. It has seen me angry, fail, bleed, laugh, succeed, sweat, all while creating something with my hands."  - C.P.
